Share a handmade card to show how much you care…
Looking for a DIY Christmas card idea? Today we share with you two ideas that are simple to craft and loads of fun to make. When you are finished, fill your card with a heartfelt message and share with your loved ones.
OPTION 1: The ‘Christmas Tree’ Card
What you will need:
- 2x A4 pieces of green paper (for your tree)
- 1 x A4 piece of red card paper (or colour of choice for backing card – this should be slightly thicker than paper)
- 1 x A4 piece of white paper (for your snow cut out)
- Pencil, glue and scissors
- Optional - stars, ribbons, decorations of your choice
Step 1: Prepare the back of card
With your white piece of paper, draw a mountain in pencil. Then, cut your snow mountain and glue onto the red paper. Fold in half. You can also decorate with other stars like we have here, or you can do this part later.
Step 2: Prepare your tree
(you’ll need 2 pieces of green paper)
Fold your green paper in half (this helps make your lines for straight folding).
Concertina fold your green paper so that you fold one way and then fold the other, until you have 2 pieces of green paper that look like this.
Step 3: Cut your tree
Cut your green paper into 6 pieces at different sizes to form a tree (long to short).
Then, stick down the tree concertina strips by gluing each of your tree pieces to the right side of the fold (ONE SIDE ONLY) of your card in order. You can use your scissors like we have to hold each piece of paper in position.
Allow to dry a little (we left it 10 mins).
Step 4: Glue and fold your tree
Use your glue to make strips on the opposite side of the card (this is what the right side will stick to).
No, hold down your tree cuttings with one hand, whilst carefully using your other hand to fold the card together. This allows the tree to stick to the other side of your card.
Step 5: Finishing touches
You can add more decoration to your card. For example, add a star to the top of your tree, a tree trunk, ribbon etc! Then your card is complete!
OPTION 2: ‘The Present’ Card
What you will need:
- 1x A4 piece of red paper (backing card)
- 1 x A4 piece of cream card paper (or colour of choice for backing card – this should be slightly thicker than paper)
- Cuttings from wrapping paper cut into squares
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Glue
- Scissors
- Optional - stars, ribbons, decorations
Step 1: Preparing your presents
Fold your cream card paper in half. Along the spine, fold of the card, mark out 4 strips (around 5 cm apart). This doesn’t need to be perfect!
Use your ruler to draw lines for each marking. Your marks should go from longest to shortest as per image shown.
Step 2: Cut your presents
Using your lines, cut along the lines (from the fold) longest to shortest.
Step 3: Folding your presents into shape
Once cut, you can fold each of your cuttings backwards. This helps your presents form their shape. Open your card out and pop out each of your presents. This is so cool!
Step 4: Wrap the presents!
Using your glue and your Christmas wrapper cuttings, glue each piece of paper down so it looks like a present!
You can get creative here and add further decoration such as stars, coloured tape etc.
Step 5: Glue your backing card
Glue your present creation onto a backing card of choice. If you like, you can also decorate this before you glue.
Then your card is complete!
